Sewer Laterals to be Discussed Next Week

The city’s Community Development and Public Works departments will join East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) to host a meeting to discuss potential changes to the city’s private sewer lateral ordinance.

This ordinance identifies a property owner’s responsibilities for sewer lateral testing, repair, and replacement, especially at the point of a sale or transfer.

“Repairing and/or replacing leaky laterals are an important requirement of the city’s obligations to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and other regulatory agencies,” the city stated in the press release that announced the meeting. Members of the real estate community and the general public are invited to attend.

The meeting is scheduled for next Thursday, March 27, from 10 a.m. to noon in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Ave.
