Beginning Friday, Nov. 4, the Alameda High School (AHS) drama department will present a live-action rendition of the well-loved comedy, romance and action film, The Princess Bride at the AHS Frederick L. Chacon Little Theater. 

Performances will continue on Sunday, Nov. 6, and then the following weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 10, 11 and 12. 

All performances begin at 7 p.m. except Nov. 6 which begins at 2 p.m. Megan Beaudreau directs. 


Alameda well represented at Anaheim STEM Symposium

Wood Middle School was selected to showcase its integrated and project-based learning Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) program at the fourth annual California STEM Symposium which began last Sunday in Anaheim, Calif. The symposium continued with a full slate of speakers, workshops and activities through Tuesday, Oct. 11. 


This year we celebrate the 524th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s arrival in the New World, although not without controversy. The Culinary Academy of Post Street didn’t want to tackle the tricky topic of whether Oct. 10 should be renamed “Indigenous Peoples Day,” so we focused on the safer subject of food.


A seventh-grade student at Nea Community Learning Center, Shino Kawazu, has won a place as a semifinalist in the 2016 Broadcom MASTERS (Math,
Applied Science, Technology and Engineering for Rising Stars), a program of the Society for Science and the Public. This honor placed her project among the top 300 middle school science and engineering projects in the United States out of more than 6,000 nominees.

Kawazu’s teacher, Daniel Pasker, inspired and assisted Kawazu with her science fair project.


College students from Harvard, Stanford, and Yale have created a college admissions and financial aid guide that is now being sent to every public high school in America. Attempting to level the college application playing field, Fair Opportunity Project’s aims to get every student the best college admittance information available, regardless of background.
