Rhythmix Offers Access to Free Virtual Arts Education

Rhythmix Cultural Works (RCW) is embarking on one of its most ambitious arts undertakings this year: to convert its live world music and dance assembly program into a virtual format to provide Alameda and Oakland public school students continued access to high quality arts education opportunities during the coronavirus pandemic.

With Alameda County schools teaching via remote distance learning in the fall, students will have less time for general classroom instruction and severely limited access to arts education programming. To help remedy this situation, RCW will be presenting its Performance, Art & Learning (PAL) program as a free online arts education performance series for Alameda and Oakland students, complete with at-home activities and additional resources for teachers. RCW is also partnering with the Alameda Education Foundation to provide a visual arts component and resources to complement each virtual assembly.

To help fund this program, RCW is hosting the Rhythmix MashUP - Virtual Benefit for Youth Arts on by way of Zoom at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 29. The program features live comedy with Marga Gomez, music by Terrie Odabi, Tracy Blackman and “accordion diva” Jet Black Pearl. The evening will include exhibits with artist and winemaker Shauna Rosenblum of Rock Wall Wine Company and three games of dance party bingo hosted by “Ethel Merman” and “Yoko Ono.” Prizes will be available at an online silent auction as well.

Proceeds will support the RCW Performance, Art & Learning (PAL) program that will offer free virtual world music and dance assemblies to students this school year. Come as fancy or as whimsical as you wish, and get ready to party, dance and laugh together to bring the gift of high-quality arts education to East Bay youth.
