Remembrance Events Set for Memorial Day

Remembrance Events Set for Memorial Day
There will be two annual events for Alamedans to celebrate Memorial Day, Monday, May 28.
USS Hornet Museum Memorial Day Ceremony
The USS Hornet Museum will be honoring our Veterans on Memorial Day with a ceremony at its location at 707 West Hornet Ave. The event will include special guests including author and historian Russell Moore who will take on MC duties. Moore is the author of the book, USS Hornet CV-12, Service in War and Peace. Moore will do a book signing at the event.
The event will also include a National Anthem performance from the Hornet Horn Quartet, a presentation from the U.S. Coast Guard, Base Alameda Color Guard, a USS Hornet Official Memorial Squadron Flyover, and more.
The event begins at 10 a.m. It is free for Veterans.
Veterans Park Memorial Day Service
The second event takes place on Bay Farm Island. The Alameda Elks Veterans will hold its annual Memorial Day event at Veterans Memorial Park, just over the Bay Farm Bridge on the south end.
Every year, on Memorial Day, Elks Veterans, along with Officers and members of the Lodge, attend and participate in our Alameda Memorial Day ceremony. Elks, as a group, will present a wreath in remembrance of all veterans who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
The event begins at 11 a.m., but event organizers ask the public to arrive around 10:30 a.m. to have enough time to park and be seated before the event begins.
This is a solemn event and appropriate dress is expected. All Elks are welcome to present the wreath. Spouses, significant others, and family are also welcome to participate.
Members of Alameda City Government and public service organizations are expected to be at both events.
