St. Joseph Notre Dame (SJND) senior Joshua Fralick captured the Bay Counties – East League men’s tennis singles championship on May 2 at Blackhawk Tennis Villas in Danville.

Fralick defeated the top player from the Athenian School of Danville, Tyler Farnholtz, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3. Neither player could gain any separation in the first set. It had to be decided in a tiebreaker, which Fralick dominated. From there, Fralick cruised to a 5-1 lead in the second set and closed it out definitively. Fralick’s victory qualified him for the North Coast Section (NCS) Div. II men’s tennis singles tournament. He lost to Alex Sae from Sonoma Academy of Santa Rosa in a three-set thriller, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (9), in the first round on May 15 at McKinleyville High School.

The SJND men’s tennis team finished third in the Bay Counties – East League men’s tennis team tournament. They lost to Athenian in the tournament semifinal, 5-2, on April 25 at Blackhawk Tennis Villas. They did not qualify for the NCS team tournament.
