Phoenix Receives ‘New Business of the Year’ Award
At the end of each year, the Downtown Alameda Business Association (DABA) presents awards to member businesses in recognition of their contributions to the success of the downtown district. The owners and staff of the selected businesses are excellent examples of the quality of service you can expect to find throughout the district. Additionally, the award recipients are highly active in DABA activities, continuously participate in downtown events and make a special effort to cultivate improvements in the business community.
The award for the 2017 New Business of the Year was recently presented to Benjamin and Saskia Winter of Phoenix, Alameda’s first co-working space. The site offers a synergistic atmosphere for workers of all types to share their workday. Phoenix provides spacious ergonomic stations, conference rooms, bike parking, coffee service, a lounge and everything else the modern worker needs. Phoenix is also the home to 18 artist studios where makers from a wide variety of disciplines can create.
Phoenix is the perfect space for a private dinner party, work presentation, playoff game, indie movie night, comedy show or whatever one might dream up.
When Benjamin and Saskia opened Phoenix a year ago, they didn’t hesitate to jump right into assisting in downtown district activities and events. Not only did they host the check-in location for the Downtown Easter Hunt, but they also generously donated craft supplies for kids to decorate bags before going on the hunt for treats. Later in the year, Phoenix was the premier host location for the Alameda International Film Festival.
Benjamin and Saskia are dedicated to supporting local artists; Benjamin sits on the 2nd Friday ArtWalk committee and works with the city on art-related topics.
Benjamin is a graduate of Cal Poly’s Art and Design Program with a major in photography and Saskia has a bachelor’s degree in event production from the University of Nijmegen (The Netherlands). When they’re not busy overseeing operations together at Phoenix, Saskia and Benjamin are helping couples create wonderful memories as a wedding planner and a wedding photographer, respectively.
Phoenix is located at 2315 Lincoln Ave. For more information about co-working space, art space or events, call (415) 671-2166 or visit www.phoenixalameda.com.
