Pedestrian Killed on South Shore


An Oakland man died on Monday, May 9, when he succumbed to injuries he received when he was struck by a vehicle on Shore Line Drive the day prior.

Philip Byung Chan Lee, 77, was pronounced dead Monday after never regaining consciousness after the accident. The ordeal took place Sunday morning, May 8, around 11:35 a.m. on the 2200 block of Shore Line, according to police reports. Lee was attempting to cross the street on Shore Line from the beachfront toward South Shore Center when he was struck by a man driving a blue 1989 
Toyota Corolla. 

The motorist, 59, was an Alameda man travelling eastbound. Alameda police officers said the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was cooperative during the investigation. His name was not revealed. 

Police believe the man was not intoxicated or impaired in any way. His vehicle was impounded for the investigation, where they will search if the car had a mechanical malfunction among other things.

Lee’s body was transported to Highland Hospital after being struck. Lee succumbed to blunt head injuries, according to reports.
