Park Now Has Its Own Website
The Jean Sweeney Open Space Park Committee announced its new website last week: www.sweeneyopenspacepark.org. Designed to display information about the park, the site includes information on the several topics.
n About Jean Sweeney: The site features an audio recording of Jean talking about her experience over the 10 years she, her husband Jim and community members worked to secure the 22-acre park that is named in her honor.
n In The News: The site contains an archive of newspaper articles beginning in 1999 that tell the story of what was happening in Alameda during the time the park land was being fought over.
n Park History: The site displays many of the legal documents from the lawsuit between the City of Alameda and the Belt Line Railroad. The final legal decision can be also found there.
n Pictures/Videos: Slideshows and videos on the site capture Alameda Recreation and Parks Department activities and the efforts to help promote the park.
n Links are provided to stay in touch with the committee or to donate to its cause. Current announcements will be made on the main page.
The Jean Sweeney Open Space committee is co-chaired by Jim Sweeney and former vice mayor, Doug DeHaan.
