No Yard? No Problem

Learn to ‘container garden’ Monday

Renters may be happy to know, a backyard is not required to grow food according to Urban Guerrilla Farmer Jon Zax. Learn to adapt to container growing at a talk with Zax Monday, April 13, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Rhythmix Cultural Works, 2513 Blanding Ave. in Alameda.

Zax is an expert on growing food in unlikely places, in a sustainable and practical way. So naturally, he relies heavily on using containers and dealing with all that comes with them. Zax has run such experiments in the parking lot of the building where he lives.

The conversation is being held through Alameda Backyard Growers (ABG). ABG meetings are held on the second Monday of every month from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Rhythmix Cultural Works (unless otherwise noted). Other upcoming events include:

• May 11: Drought, Water Supply and the Resilient Garden with Scott Summerfeld, East Bay Municipal Utilities District

• June 8: Aquaponics with Ori Paz

• July 13: Garden Talk and Potluck

Participation is free and open to all residents of Alameda and the surrounding area. Visit to find out more.
