Council Considering New City Manager

The Contra Costa Times is reporting that Moraga Town manager Jill Keimach has accepted the position of Alameda City Manager. Moraga mayor Mike Metcalf told The Times that Keimach notified him recently she had accepted the Alameda city manager position.

According to the Town of Moraga’s website, Keimach has served as town manager since Nov. 1, 2010. Prior to her tenure in Moraga, Keimach served as the community development director for the city of Fremont, where she led a department with 120 employees and an $18 million budget.

Keimach holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture and a master’s degree in city and regional planning from the University of California at Berkeley.

According to a city of Alameda press release, the City Council considered Keimach’s appointment at last Tuesday’s meeting, which took place after press time. Her base annual salary is expected to be $245,000 for a contract that begins March 7.

Alameda mentioned on Jeopardy!

The famed television quiz show Jeopardy! stumped its contestants Saturday with an answer about Alameda (on Jeopardy! contestants must respond to an answer in the form of a question). Host Alex Trebek mentioned the Island City while reading an answer from the category “Offbeat Museums.”

The answer read: “An Alameda, California museum has dozens of these recreational machines, with and without flippers.”

None of the three contestants even ventured a guess and remained silent in response. Trebek clarified for the contestants by providing the question: “What is pinball?” of course in reference to the Alameda-based Pacific Pinball Museum.
