New Jersey Choir to Perform at Local Church

As part of a seven-day tour of the Bay Area, a cast of more than 35 teenagers will perform Andrew Lloyd Webber’s popular musical Jesus Christ Superstar in a fully staged and choreographed production at First Congregational Church on Saturday, Feb. 15. Doors open at 7:15 p.m.; the show begins at 7:30 p.m. The church is located at 1912 Central Ave. at Chestnut Street.

Cast members belong to the Westminster Choir of the First Presbyterian Church in Caldwell, New Jersey. Westminster’s annual choir tour is a tradition that dates back to 1988.

The choir has traveled to locations throughout this country, and has visited Canada and the United Kingdom. The choir’s performances include Fiddler on the Roof, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Godspell, Children of Eden, Pippin, Urinetown, Cotton Patch Gospel, and Once On This Island. This is the group’s fourth trip to California.

There is no cost for the Feb. 15 show, but a love offering will be taken to help establish a peace village in Alameda. The village is an interfaith peace education program for children and youth.
