Alameda native Cooper Teare finished fourth in the Nike Elite Camp high school men’s one-mile race last Saturday, July 2 at the historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
Teare, a rising senior at St. Joseph Notre Dame, was one of 10 male athletes to participate in the prestigious invite-only race.
Teare stayed with the rest of the pack for majority of the race. He was able to take over the fourth place position on the final turn of the race. Teare finished with a time of 4:06.79.
Reed Brown won the race in a photo finish with a time of 4:04.73. Casey Clinger finished in a time of 4:04.86.
The Nike Elite Camp brings together 20 of the best high school distance runners, male and female, from around the country each summer to train, compete and learn together with the best coaches and professional athletes in the country.
Teare was invited due to his stellar 2016 season where he won the California 3200 state meet on June 4 with a time of 8:51.
