Movie Prop Brings Out Bomb Squad

Just after 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 28, a caller to the Alameda Police Department dispatcher said that there was bag containing dynamite next to a tree on the 700 block of Lincoln Avenue. APD alerted the Alameda County Sheriff Department Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Squad.

The scare prompted APD to restrict traffic on Lincoln Avenue between Webster Street and Constitution Way. Police also evacuated the buildings around the spot where the suspected dynamite lay in a bag. Members of the EOD squad arrived and quickly determined that the suspected explosives were nothing more than a movie prop. The EOD Squad confiscated the bag and the movie prop. There was no paperwork in the bag with the prop.

APD lifted restrictions about 1 p.m. Authorities currently have no leads on who may have placed the movie prop or why it was placed on Lincoln Avenue.
