All property remaining at Nelson’s Marine, 1500 Ferry Point, will come under the gavel at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 17. International Boat & Marine Auction Services will conduct the auction. The city originally planned to liquidate the property at Nelson’s in February 2014 using Michaan’s Auctions but later postponed the sale.
"All marine equipment, vessels, power and sail boats will be sold," states Kip Kane auctioneer. "Everything will be sold as-is and where-is. It’s what you see and what you don’t see you get as well."
Mildred Nolan, 93, U.S. Navy veteran from World War II, proudly displays her Quilt of Honor, which was awarded to her for her military service. Twin Towers United Methodist Church, 1411 Oak St., is holding a program to honor women in the military and women veterans like Nolan. The program begins at noon, this Saturday, March 7. The guest of honor is Dr. Betty Moseley Brown. The keynote speaker is Juliana M. Boor, director of Veterans Affairs
An Alameda native passed away late last month due to injuries suffered as a result of a ski accident.
Jacob Koltun was enjoying a ski outing at the Breckenridge Ski Resort in Breckenridge, Col. when the accident occurred Monday, Feb. 23. The 22 year old was skiing without a helmet on the mountain’s Peak 7 area — a part of the resort’s terrain for expert skiers, according to the Summit County Coroner’s report.
Development projects in Alameda have caused some members of the community to lose trust in City Hall. They fear that the city has omitted key land-use, as well as traffic and parking facts, from its documents and presented implausible results.
Parents and schools staffers are making a renewed push for better school security following a pair of incidents the past few weeks.
The effort comes after a Feb. 13 break-in at Bay Farm School that left a kindergarten classroom in disarray and an incident at Edison Elementary School 10 days later. Kelandre Rejaun Dunn, 27, who police said was on drugs, allegedly grabbed an Edison employee in the school’s office, tried to steal employees’ property and fought with police who came to arrest him.
