Maggie Lindquist Putts Her Way to AWGC Victory

Putts were the difference of the day when the Alameda Women’s Golf Club met on Thursday, Feb. 3. Maggie Lindquist had only 32 putts and that was enough for her to be the overall low net winner for the round at net 68. Lindquist tied with Carole Pillow for best gross score of the day at 86. Kari Vadnais was the closest-to-the-pin winner on hole 5, landing 4 feet 10 inches away. The Club had six flights with handicaps ranging from 6 to 40.

In Flight 1, Cheryl Saxton tied for first place with Lynn Jones at net 73. Kari Vadnais and Julie Peele tied at net 75 for second place. Stephanie Bellato, reigning Club Champion, finished the day at net 76 in fourth place. Lynn Kobatake and Carole Pillow tied at net 80. Siobhan Curley finished with a net 89.

Lindquist won Flight 2 at net 68. Cindy Withrow took second place at 76 and Laura Marinai and Tracey Perkins tied for third place at net 77. Jeanne Burke finished at net 78, Claire Loud at net 81, and Debbie Adams and Denise Link tied at net 90.

Sia Scates and Sherry Westernoff finished tied in first place in Flight 3 with matching net 75s. Claudia Leed posted a net 77 for third place. In a day of close finishes, Lily Boris and Judy Eng tied for fourth place at 80. Chizu Holmes finished at net 81, Jeanne Yip at net 84 and Elisabeth Fredricsson at net 85.

Beatrice Lebrec was sole winner of Flight 4 at net 72. Madeline Sally finished at net 73 for second place. Another tie for third place with Barbara Mickle and Louise Eilhardt posting net 74s. Yvonne Lee finished at net 77, Rita Kae Restrepo at net 81, Sarah Valentine at net 81 and Jamie Totsubo at net 89.

Denise Gasti took first place in Flight 5 with a net 71. Siv Richards placed second at net 73. There was three-way tie for third place with Dee Dee Appleton, Jean Cho and Mary Jo Knight all finishing at 74. Diane Hughes finished at net 82, Susan Yoon at net 87 and Jane Sullwold at net 93.

Kay Park and Vivian Kang tied for 1st place in Flight 6 posting a net 78. Pam Curtis held the second place slot with a net 84, while Beverly Blatt was in third place at net 89. Kay Choi has been a member of the club since 1992 and she finished the day at net 92 with Connie Wendling at net 102.
