Alameda celebrated the "Year of the Horse" at the Spring Festival held at Harbor Bay Landing Shopping Center last Saturday.

Many attended, including Vice Mayor Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft, Councilman Stewart Chen, Fire Chief Mike D’Orazi, Police Chief Paul Rolleri and Alameda Unified School District Board President Niel Tam.

The gala featured the Lincoln Middle School Marching Band, Philippine and gu-zheng music, Tai Chi, hand pulled noodle, and fruit carving demonstrations, Polynesian and Chinese folk dances, Chinese poetry and songs along with martial arts demonstrations and a lion dance. The event raised some $400 for Alameda Food Bank through the "Wheel of Luck" game.

The Harbor Bay Intercultural Committee organizes the festival each year with help from local sponsors and volunteers, including Boy Scout Troop 3 and Oakland Charter High School.
