Locals Compete in Castro Valley, Stanford Invite. on Same Day

 

St. Joseph Notre Dame (SJND) senior Emily Perez finished 14th in the women’s 1,600-meter race with a time of 5:06.84 at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday, March 30. Encinal High School (EHS) senior Shelby Nelson finished 25th in the same race. She completed the distance in 5:21.81. Twenty-six athletes competed in the race.

Alameda High School (AHS) senior Lauren Lum won the women’s 1,600-meter race at the Castro Valley Relays at Castro Valley High the same day with a time of 5:19.83. Her teammate Janine Barot, a junior, finished fourth with a time of 6:32.69. Six athletes competed in the race. 

The AHS women’s relay team won the distance medley relay race. In this race each team has four participants. One runner runs 1,200 meters, the next runs 400 meters, then 800 meters and the final participant runs 1,600 meters. The AHS team of Olivia Liuson, Lum, Julia West and Katherine Gee won the race in a time of 13:23.54. They beat out Castro Valley to win the race.

AHS junior Eric Liang finished seventh in the men’s 100-meter dash at the Relays. He finished with a time of 12.05. His teammate Eric Funchess came in ninth place. The junior recorded a time of 12.14. Junior Kahlim Davis rounded out the Hornets’ top three runners with a 15th place finish and a time of 12.30. SJND senior Marcus Abendanio finished 19th with a time of 12.55. Twenty-five athletes competed in the race.

AHS junior Patrick Nguyen finished seventh in the men’s 1,600-meter race with a time of 4:56.83. AHS sophomore came in ninth place with a time of 4:59.46. Junior Ian Pang took 11th place with a time of 5:01.35. Senior James Ensminger finished 13th with a time of 5:04.42. Senior Andrew Peng finished 17th with a time of 5:14.32. Twenty-eight athletes competed in the race.

Zach Ramos competed in the men’s 300-meter hurdles competition. He finished in sixth place with a time of 45.68. Twelve athletes competed in the race.

The Alameda men’s relay team finished fourth in the distance medley relay race. The foursome of Emilio Cazares, Ryan Melanson, Nguyen and Pang finished the race with a time of 11:54.37. Ten teams competed in the race.
