Local Teacher Releases Novel

Longtime Alameda English teacher and resident, Helen Joyce Harris (above, left) just released a new mainstream novel, Visible Means of Support, published by Wheatmark. The book is the story of a young man imprisoned for conspiracy to deal cocaine, and his mother’s attempt to keep his secret from friends, colleagues and, most especially, from her own distant, aristocratic mother.

Books Inc., 1344 Park St. will host an author’s reading on Thursday, March 12, at 7 p.m.

Harris is known to support Alameda Community Chorus, the League of Women Voters and the Alameda branch of the American Association of University Women.
