Local Studio Hosts Jiu-Jitsu Event

The 29th Jiu Jitzu by the Bay tournament took place at the Alameda High School main gym Sunday, Sept. 29.

Members of Team Silva Jiu-Jitzu Academy participated in the event. Nam Nguyen from Oakland won a gold medal and Jonathan De Leon also won a gold medal. Another Alamedan, Lucio Amaral, won multiple medals in the event.

The tournament consisted of more than 300 competitors battling the best of the best throughout the Bay Area. Kids, teens, women, adults and seniors competed in the event that happens multiple times a year. Competitors had matches in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and submission wrestling. 

The Jiu-Jitzu by the Bay tournaments began in 2009.
