Local Golf Club Hosts Net Tournament Event

Ruby Soo and Susan Yoon won the Alameda Women’s Golf Club’s net tournament event last Thursday on the last day of March on the Earl Fry Course.

Yoon played in the third flight — handicap of 29 to 30. She shot just one stroke better than Denise Gasti who came in second place with a net 64. Jane Sullwold came in third place with a net 73, while Bonnie Kim shot a net 74 for fourth place. Diane Hughes rounded out the top five in the flight with a net 75.

Soo won the fourth flight — handicap of 31 to 37. She had a much easier time handling her opponents than Yoon did. Susan Logan came in second place in the flight by posting a net 69, six strokes behind Soo. Bobbie Hoepner and Jean Cho both posted net 70s to tie for third place. Louise Eilhardt scored a net 72 on the fourth flight for fifth place.

Jenny Bae won the first flight — handicap of 11 to 22 — with a net 66. She also shot the lowest gross score of the afternoon with an overall 79. Sherry Westernoff finished three strokes from the lead with a net 69. Bernice Herzberg and Cheryl Saxton finished with matching net 71s to tie for third place in the flight. Barbara Mickle finished in fifth place with a net 72.

Pat O’Hara fought off stiff competition to win the second flight. The top five golfers were separated by five strokes. O’Hara posted a net 68. Fran Mori and Madeline Sally tied for second place with net 69s, while Judy Eng and Sonia Kwak tied for fourth place with net 71s.

Pam Curtis won the fifth flight — handicap of 40 and over — with a net 70. Donna Cooper posted a net 74 for second place. Connie Wending and Shirl Ames tied for third place with a net 86.

Thirty-seven golfers competed in the event.

Claire Loud won the closest-to-the-hole competition on the fourth hole by placing the ball 17’ 2” from the pin. Kwak won the competition on the 15th hole by placing her ball 9’ 7” from the hole.
