The Lincoln Middle School Marching Band recently accepted the first-place award for its performance in this year’s Chinese New Year Parade in San Francisco.  Students and parents from the band and music director Tyra Ingram-Cable expressed their excitement at winning the award before a packed house of more than 500 guests that included parade organizers and participants along with Miss Chinatown and her court of attendants.

This marks the first time that the Lincoln Middle School Band has received the first place award in the marching band category in the Chinese New Year Parade, which is held every February. Students shown receiving a beautiful first-place framed picture plaque are: seated, Ryan Chong and Sabrina Yan; standing from left to right: Thomas Chow, Drum Major Emily Tran, Jeffrey Jeung, Duston So, Maxine Garfinkle, Samantha Yan and music director Tyra Ingram Cable.

This award caps a very successful year for the band, which successfully competed in the “Music in the Parks” festival competition, was chosen to lead the Disneyland parade and presented three marching-band and concert-band performances at three Garden Grove, Calif., elementary schools.
