Learn to Love Jazz with Library
The Alameda Free Library is hosting a free concert celebrating Jazz Appreciation Month, showcasing the talents of the Dave Rocha Trio. The concert will be held from 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, April 30, at the Main Library, 1550 Oak St.
Dave Rocha has been performing with his jazz group for more than 20 years. He has played in a number of major cities, including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. His trio plays an eclectic mix of jazz standards that includes Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter and John Coltrane; pop tunes from the likes of Cole Porter, George Gershwin and Antonio Carlos Jobim; as well as original compositions. This music covers a wide variety of styles from up-tempo bebop, “modal” tunes, swing and blues, to Latin jazz, ballads and jazz waltz.
In addition to his trumpet expertise, Rocha is also an accomplished flugelhorn player, an instrument similar to the trumpet with a larger bell and a darker, mellower sound.
This event is free and made possible by the Friends of the Alameda Free Library. No registration is necessary.
