Learn Food at Alameda Natural Grocery

Bowls of Love
The Island City’s organic grocery, Alameda Natural Grocery, will host a cooking demonstration Saturday, April 19, titled “Serving Up a Bowl of Love.” Alameda Chef Meela Shah will be in the store teaching shoppers how to prepare a protein-loaded vegetarian chili.

Shah has spent the past 16 years teaching how to prepare Indian cuisine. She specializes in using fresh ingredients, exotic herbs and spices with a focus on those with healthful properties.

The demonstration is free to watch and takes place 1 to 3 p.m.

Herb Guidance
The grocery hosts talks on healthy eating and other topics every last Friday of the month. April’s talk will feature Catherine Hunziker a nationally known master herbalist, educator, activist and the chairwoman of WishGarden Herbs. She has been with the company since 1987 and is responsible for its effective formulations, product development and pretty much everything else.

WishGarden Herbal Remedies creates medicinal botanical supplements using the certified organic and wild-crafted ingredients to make remedies designed to soothe, nurture and support the body.

As a pioneer in her field, Hunziker will answer questions about herbal remedies and their production, Friday, April 25, at 7:15 p.m. The talk is free.
