Lady Golfers Vie for Low Scores
Kay Park posted a net 70 to win the third Alameda Women’s Golf Club event of the month on the Earl Fry Course last Thursday, Feb. 19.
The event was played net-style, meaning the lowest net score wins the event. Park played in the third flight with golfers who have a 29 to 34 handicap. Park shot a net 70 to win the flight and the overall tournament. Denise Grati came in second in the flight and the overall tournament by posting a net 71. Bonnie Kim and Sonia Kwak shot matching net 76s to tie for third place.
Stephanie Bellato and Tae Chewpanich shared the reigns in the first flight — handicap of 10 to 21 — by shooting a net 74. Chewpanich also managed to shoot the lowest gross score of the event with an overall 84. Cheryl Saxton came in third place with a net 75.
Madeline Sally withstood tough competition to win the third flight — handicap of 22 to 27. Sally shot a net 74 to win the flight, but it was not easy. Fran Mori and Pat O’ Hara tied for second place in the flight with matching net 75s. Claire Loud shot a net 76 for fourth place.
Shirl Ames shot a net 75 to win a fourth flight — handicap of 35 to 40. Lynette Mladinich finished in second place with a net 76.
Chewpanich won the closest-to-the-hole competition on the fourth hole by hitting her ball 22’ 5” from the pin. Pat O’Hara came in second place with her ball landing 25’ from the hole. Chewpanich also won the 11th hole competition by placing her ball 26’ 3” from the hole. Sonia Kwak came in second with her ball landing 32’ 2” from the hole.
Thirty-six golfers participated in the event.
