Lady Golfers Remember Norma
Turkey-shoot Thanksgiving Tourney named for Arnerich
The Alameda Women’s Golf Club played its last tournament of 2018 on Nov. 15 on the Jack Clark Course. The Norma Arnerich Thanksgiving Tournament was a “turkey-shoot” style tournament played in honor of Norma Arnerich who passed away in April of this year.
In spite of the smoke in the air, 37 players played in the four-woman team contest. In turkey-shoot rules, one player’s net score is counted — it rotates after each hole. This is called a pink ball. The pink ball is added to the best of the remaining three net scores to give the team a net score for that hole. Thus a par score for a team would be 144 (par 72 plus 72).
The team of Elizabeth Fredricsson, Dot Moody, Fran Mori and Siv Richards won the first flight with a net score of 122. Dee Dee Appleton, Judy Eng, Alice Wong and Phoebe Yu teamed up to win second place with a team net score of 130.
Holly Cromer, Maggie Lindquist, Peggy Miller and Tracey Perkins combined to shoot a net score of 132 for third place. Bobbie Hoepner, Pat O’Hara, Sherry Westernoff and Susan Yoon managed to get fourth place with a team net score of 133. Val Buschor, Claire Loud, Kathy Nagakura and a blind draw rounded out the top five with a team net score of 138.
Barbara Barton, Bev Blatt and Sarah Valentine won the second flight with a blind draw. They scored a net 123. Shirl Ames, Ann Ching, Janet Rhee and Angie Vaccarezza teamed up to finish in second place with a net 133.
The squad of Debbie Adams, Pam Curtis and Diane Hughes finished third with a blind draw. The team shot a net 138. The teams of Louise Eilhardt, Diana Millado, Kay Park and Carolee Ziegenhagen; and Bonnie Kim, Sonia Kwak, Juanita Solano and Jane Sullwold tied for fourth place with a net 142 team score.
Loud won the closest-to-the-hole competition on the fifth hole with her ball landing 2’ 9” from the pin. Wong won the competition on the 16th hole with her ball landing 5’ 10” from the pin.
