Kiwanis Club Holds Dinner Ceremony for Scholarship Awardees

The Kiwanis Club of Alameda held a formal dinner for the recipients of their scholarship program on June 8 at the Alameda Elks Lodge Ballroom. The scholarships were funded by the Alameda Kiwanis Foundation.

The Kiwanis Club of Alameda awarded $50,000 worth of scholarships to graduating Alameda high school seniors attending college in the fall. These students excelled in academics, community service and leadership.

Alameda High School (AHS) graduate Elvira Lu won the Key Club Scholarship, AHS graduate Amanda Lee won the Martina and Lucille Stohr Scholarship, AHS grad Graciella Basco received the Kiwanis Legacy Scholarship, AHS grad Haley Molina received the Kiwanis Foundation Scholarship, Encinal High graduate Abraham Simon won the Herb and Jeanne Justin Scholarship, and St. Joseph Notre Dame graduate Jaida Sieu won the John Hanson Scholarship.

“I am beyond grateful to receive this scholarship and for the kindness and generosity of the Kiwanis Club that will help me to attend my dream university next year,” said Sieu who will attend Chapman University in the fall. “The night was a remarkable experience that I will remember for a lifetime and a great opportunity to meet and thank the members of the Kiwanis Club.”

The Kiwanis Club of Alameda began in 1923. The organization is dedicated to serving the community through various service projects with a focus on children.
