Kids: Borrow Outdoor Gear from Library
The Alameda Free Library has brightly colored adventure backpacks ready to loan out to adventurous kids in the Island City. Individuals, families or groups looking for fun in the outdoors who might be planning excursions like picnic lunches, hikes on new trails or maybe just watching bugs crawl can take advantage of a new library backpack-lending program.
Before heading out, bring a valid library card to any Alameda Free Library location to check out a backpack for up to three weeks. Backpacks include maps, trail guides, Junior Ranger badge activities, field guides, binoculars and more. All the library asks in return is for adventurers to share some photos from their trips on the library’s Facebook page or tell library staff about their trips in person.
Especially encouraged are trips to any of the more than 120 nearby national, state, regional and city parks surrounding Alameda.
