Jiu Jitsu Standout Takes Gold
An Alameda Jiu-Jitsu competitor won first place at the 28th Jiu-Jitsu by the Bay Tournament on June 16 at Hayward High School. Jonathan DeLeon won both his matches at the Father’s Day event. He is a student at Otis Elementary School and an Alameda martial arts student.
DeLeon competes with Team Silva Martial Arts Academy where he practices Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Monday through Thursday in the after-school martial arts program. According to Team Silva, Jiu-Jitsu by the Bay is one of the toughest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and submission wrestling tournaments on the West Coast. Competitors from Brazil, Russia, Canada, Los Angeles, Reno, Tracy and all over the Bay Area competed. Fighters compete in male and female divisions ranging from four-years-old to adult. The tournament takes place every four months.
Team Silva Jiu-Jitsu offers a variety of programs such as toddler martial arts, kids’ Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, kids’ self-defense, junior self-defense, teens Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, adult self-defense, adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, private sessions, birthday parties and summer camps.
