Jets Win Second Straight Island Board

Jets Win Second Straight Island Board
For the second straight year the Jets are the kings of the Island. Encinal High School's (EHS) chess club defeated Alameda High on March 12 in the second annual "Island Board." The Jets won 21 out of 36 matches during the event held at Encinal High School.
"It feels great to win the Island Board," said EHS club president Jonah Abrami to EHS publication Horizon. "I know our players worked hard for it, showing up to every meeting and practicing on their own time. That's really what made this possible."
Players were sorted into categories: beginner, intermediate, and advanced, to ensure parity.
"I'm so glad Alameda came out to play us," added Abrami. "The Island Board is a great space to have some healthy competition and also have fun."
The hard work preparing for the event paid off for the Jets.
“We have a great chess community and work extremely hard during our club days,” said junior Hudson Taylor.
Last year, the Island Board took place on Alameda High’s campus.
