Jets Fail to Launch

The Encinal Jets failed to pull off the upset, losing to the visiting Tennyson Lancers of Hayward by the score of 36-6.

The first-place Lancers improved to 4-0 in the West Alameda County Conference (WACC) Foothill League and 7-2 overall. In contrast, the Jets dropped their fourth straight game to fall to 0-4 in league action and 1-8 overall.

The Lancers dominated this Oct. 28 league contest from start to finish. Many students, family members, and others filled the stands in support of both Bay Area teams. Tennyson found little resistance from the Jets who let the Lancers’ offense drive down the field and score with ease. The Lancers simply looked bigger, faster, and more physical on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.

Tennyson jumped out to a 20-0 lead by halftime. They continued to roll in the second half, scoring a couple more touchdowns while maintaining a lockdown defense. It looked like Encinal was going to get shut out until they managed to score their only touchdown of the game in fourth quarter garbage time. The Jets followed up their best offensive possession of the game by intercepting an errant pass from the Tennyson quarterback on their opponents ensuing possession. However, it was too little too late as the Jets couldn’t score off of the turnover and the game ended shortly afterwards.

The Jets wrap up their 2022 season at James Logan of Union City on Nov 4.
