Locals were invited to experience the USS Hornet Air & Space Museum in a unique way free of charge all weekend courtesy of Jeep. Museum attendees took rides on the 2020 Jeep Gladiator at the Apollo 11 Splashdown 50th event on the USS Hornet flight deck, 200 feet above San Francisco Bay.

A closed course was designed to fit the unique challenges of the flight deck and put Jeeps through obstacles showcasing the vehicle’s capability, body strength, agility and traction. Additionally, Jeep displayed a 1944 Willys MB and 1951 M38 Navy Jeep, as well as a variety of concept vehicles including a Jeep JK 75th Salute, JK Staff Car, JK Sarge J8, T1, JK Crew Chief and JK JT.

Guests also received gifts from Jeep and a chance to win $70,000 toward the winner’s choice of vehicle from the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram Truck or Fiat brands.

After participating in three important World War II battles, the Hornet culminated an illustrious career with the successful recoveries of Apollo 11 and Apollo 12 in the Pacific Ocean. To learn more see
