Islander Soccer Teams Compete in Halloween-Inspired Tournaments
The Alameda Soccer Club (ASC) Islanders 2015 boys’ red team were crowned champions in the Annual Creek Cup – Octoberfest soccer tournament. The tournament took place on Oct. 28 and 29 in Walnut Creek.
The Islanders were a perfect 4-0 in their bracket. They began the tournament on Oct. 28 with a 2-0 victory over the Solano Surf 2015 boys’ blue team. Hours later they defeated the San Ramon Football Club 2015 boys’ navy team, 2-1.
On Sunday, Oct. 29, the team began the day with a semifinal match against the Clippers Football Club 15 boys’ white team. The Islanders drubbed the Clippers to the tune of 7-1. In the final, the Islanders faced Solano Surf in a rematch. The rematch was much closer than the match they played in group play, but the Islanders overcame the tough test with a 3-2 victory and tournament title.
The team won the boys’ under-eight bracket. The tournament was played at Arbolado and Heather Farm parks in Walnut Creek.
Girls Soccer Under-11
Several ASC girls’ soccer teams competed in the 10th Annual Revolution FC BooFest tournament on Oct. 28 and 29 in Brentwood. The ASC Islanders 2013 girls’ white team finished second in the girls’ under-11 bracket.
They began the tournament with a 3-3 draw to Mustang Soccer Club Ravens of Danville. Next, the Islanders defeated the WESCO 13 girls’ Blue Wolves of Sonoma, 11-2, in their second match of tournament.
The semifinal round took place early on Sunday, Oct. 29. The Islanders squeaked out a 1-0 victory in the first semifinal against Revolution Football Club of Brentwood.
The victory placed them in the final against the California Magic Soccer Club of Orinda. The Islanders played another close match, but this time they lost, 5-4.
Girls Soccer Under-12
The ASC Islanders 2012 girls’ red team finished second in the Livermore Fusion Soccer Club’s Ghouls & Goals under-12 tournament on Oct. 28 and 29.
The team defeated Clippers FC 2012 girls’ red team, 4-0, and Albion SC Central Valley 2012 girls’ team, 9-0, in group play on Oct. 28.
The team played Livermore Fusion Soccer Club on Day 2 on Oct. 29. The two teams played to a 2-2 draw. Because the two teams finished first and second in group play, they faced each other again in the final. This time the Fusion took down the Islanders, 1-0. All games were played at Robertson Park in Livermore.
