Island Poets Meet Jan. 4

Dresser

The Alameda Island Poets monthly free reading has been scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 4, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Frank Bette Center for the Arts, 1601 Paru St. Featured poets are Jannie M. Dresser and Alison Hart. Open mic follows. Light refreshments will be served by donation.

Dresser is a Bay Area poet with Central Valley roots. She is the author of Workers’ Compensation: Poems of Labor and the Working Life and is now compiling an anthology of Central Valley poets.

Hart’s work involves themes of identity from a mixed-race point of view, or from a space that holds no lines or fixed boundaries. Her latest poetry book Temp Words has been  described as “a stunning collection of poetry.”
