Island Poets Book Launch on the Slate

Island Poets Book Launch on the Slate

The Alameda Island Poets will celebrate Judy Wells’ new poetry collection, Dear Phebe: The Dickinson Sisters Go West, at their monthly reading at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3. The reading will take place at the Frank Bette Center for the Arts, 1601 Paru St. at Lincoln Avenue. Wells’ research led to her discovery that her great-grandmother Phebe was a distant cousin of Emily Dickinson.

Her husband, Dale Jensen, will also read. His poetry is heavily influenced by the Surrealists and cut-up writers such as William Burroughs and Brion Gysin. He has also published seven books of his own.

The reading will be hosted by Nanette Deetz and Alameda Poet Laureate Cathy Dana. An open mic follows the featured poets. Light refreshments, donations requested.
