The Alameda County Arts Commission invites artists to attend one of two grant-application workshops to learn about the 2014 Artsfund grants program. The commission will host a workshop next Wednesday, Jan. 22 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the county’s Lakeside Plaza Building, 401 Lakeside Dr. in Oakland. The second workshop is scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the Robert Livermore Community Center, 4444 East Ave., in Livermore.

The latest exhibit opening at Park Street Plaza’s Gary Francis Fine Art, titled Urban Grit, is described as a portrait of urban life. The show opens tomorrow night, Friday, Jan. 10, at 6 p.m. and will be on display through Feb. 2.
According to curators Gary and Kavita Francis, “The layers of life in the urban ecosystem. grind and grate together. The tenseness and determination of urban life and lifestyle regenerates and evolves.”
