Alameda police officers discovered the human remains of a deceased person along the shoreline near Bay Farm Island Bridge on Thursday, July 20.

Details are limited as Alameda Police Department (APD) officials continue to gather information. APD did say in a statement that around 3:30 p.m. APD dispatch received a call about an object along the shoreline. Officers responded and confirmed the object was that of human remains. Alameda Police Investigators were called to the scene and began their investigation. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Bureau also responded to initiate a death investigation. The condition of the body or how low it had been in the water was not disclosed by APD.

“We are sharing this information to keep our community informed,” wrote APD in a statement. “Given the nature of this investigation, we are not able to release any additional details.”
