Hornets, Jets Face Off Friday

The Alameda High School Hornets will visit Encinal High School at Willie Stargell Field to face off against their cross-town rival Jets this Friday, Sept. 7, in the annual Island Bowl. The Hornets bring a 3-0 record into the game starting with an impressive 60-14 win over American High School of Fremont. The team then shut Berkeley High School out 16-0 and scored big against Pleasant Hill’s College Park High School, winning 52-14.

The Jets boast a 2-1 record so far this season. The team won its first two games racking up offense that totaled 83 points, beating Washington of Fremont 41-0 and Analy of Sebastopol 42-10. The Jets lost to De Anza of El Sobrante 22-7 last week.

As far as the Island Bowl is concerned, the Jets hope to keep things rolling. The team won last year’s contest 44-6 on its way to an undefeated season. The Hornets hold the upper hand going into the 64th rendition of the Island Bowl, however, with 32 wins, 29 losses and two ties over the years.
