Hornets Downed in NCS, Qualify for State

The Alameda women’s basketball team was bounced from the North Coast Section Div. II tournament after a 52-45 defeat to Acalanes of Lafayette in the semifinal on last Wednesday, March 2.

The Dons pounced on the Hornets early. Acalanes led 19-8 after the first quarter.

The Dons continued its dominance on defense holding the Hornets to just seven second quarter points. The Dons led 30-15 at the half.

The Hornets did get off to a good start in the third frame. They began the second quarter with an 8-0 run. The Hornets cut the deficit to seven on multiple occasions, but that was the closest they ever got. Senior Lisa Bertholdt led the Hornets with 14 points.

Because the Hornets made it to the NCS semifinal, they qualified for the Div. II NorCal tournament. The 15-14 Hornets were awarded the 10th seed — out of 12 teams. They played Sacramento in the opening round matchup yesterday after press time.
