Hornets Baseball on Five-Game Win Streak
The Alameda High baseball team is putting together a stellar 2016 season on the diamond.
The Hornets had its five-game winning streak ended in a 3-1 loss to Castro Valley on Friday, April 22. But not before the Hornets beat five league opponents including Castro Valley 10-6 on Wednesday, April 20.
In the contest, Alameda gave up six runs in the top of the first inning. However, the Hornets rallied back with four runs in the bottom of the first and two more in the bottom of the second.
The Hornets took its first lead of the game in the fifth inning after they scored two more runs. They followed that up with two more runs in the sixth inning.
After the Hornets’ starting pitcher gave up the sixth run in the top half of the first, Hornets coach Ken Arnerich turned to Max Nyrop to take the mound. The freshman proceeded to pitch 6 1/3 scoreless innings while giving up just three hits and striking out two batters.
Hornet junior Austin Stenstedt went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and senior Kyle Averitt went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
The Hornets are 13-5 after the 1-1 split with Castro Valley. They are 8-2 in the West Alameda County Conference, placing them in second place behind San Leandro (9-1). The Hornets will take on Bishop O’Dowd of Oakland tomorrow at Lincoln Park.
