Hornet Golfer Advances to NorCal Final

Alameda High School (AHS) golfer Penny Chai qualified for the NorCal Regional Championship after a top four individual performance in the North Coast Section (NCS) Div. 1 championship on Monday, Oct. 1. The event took place at the Foxtail Golf Club in Rohnert Park.

Chai shot a 69, which put her in a three-way tie for the best score of the event with Gabby Sinatra from Cardinal Newman of Santa Rosa and Michelle Ho from Dougherty Valley High of San Ramon. Sarah Yeh from Redwood Christian of San Lorenzo finished fourth with a 72. The four golfers all qualified for the NorCal Regional championship.

Chai’s Alameda High team competed in the team competition in the NCS event. The team finished ninth out of 19 teams with an overall 438. Along with Chai’s 69, Hannah Kwon posted a 98, Nyomi Stevenson shot a 91, Nylani Stevenson shot a 79, Abigail Lam shot a 103, and Nicole Tran Alameda posted a 101.

St. Joseph Notre Dame golfer Cecilia Zhuo competed as an individual at the NCS championship. She shot an 81.

The NorCal Regional will take place on Monday, Nov. 7 at the Berkeley Country Club in El Cerrito.
