Hong Earns April Golf Charm
After several rain delays the Alameda Women’s Golf Club April Charm event was won by In Ja Hong who posted a net 69 April 19 on the Earl Fry Course.
Hong competed in the third flight among players with a handicap of 29 to 32. She beat out Louise Eilhardt who posted a net 70 for second place. Bonnie Kim finished with a net 72 for third place, while Agnes McKinlay, Barbara Mickle and Pat O’Hara each shot a net 74 to tie for fourth place in the flight.
There was a five-way tie atop the first-flight standings — handicap of 13 to 23. Jenny Bae, Stephanie Bellato, Angie Kim, Maggie Lindquist and Claire Loud each shot a net 76 in the flight. Lynn Kobatake shot a net 77 for sixth place.
Fran Mori led all golfers in the second flight — handicap of 23 to 28 — with a net 70. Debbie Adams finished five strokes behind her for second place. Kim Sung was third with a net 77. Phoebe Yu posted a net 79 for fourth place. Susan Yoon and Diane Millado both shot net 80s to tie for fifth place.
Bobbie Hoepner and Ruby Soo each shot a net 72 to tie atop the fourth flight — handicap of 33 to 40. Kay Park shot a net 73 for third place. Margot Gibson shot a net 75 for fourth place. Sandi Kaney rounded out the top five with a net 76.
McKinlay won the closest-to-the-hole competition on the seventh hole. Her ball landed 2’ 5” from the pin after two strokes. Bae came in second place with her ball landing 3’ 1” from the hole after two shots.
Mori won the competition on the 15th hole. Her attempt landed 2’ from the hole after one shot. Kim finished in second place with her shot landing 15’ 3” from the hole. Thirty-six golfers participated in the event.
