High School Sports Results: Oct. 31 to Nov. 6

Football
• Alameda High School (AHS) defeated American of Fremont, 44-24 (Nov. 4) — season over.
• Encinal High School (EHS) lost to James Logan High of Union City, 44-6 (Nov. 4) — season over.

Men’s Water Polo
• AHS lost to Newark Memorial, 12-11, in the first round of the NCS Div. 2 tournament (Nov. 2) — season over.

Women’s Water Polo
• AHS defeated Vintage High of Napa, 11-9, in the North Coast Section (NCS) Div. 2 first round (Nov. 2); lost to Terra Linda of San Rafeal, 8-3, in the NCS Div. 2 quarterfinal (Nov. 5) — season over.
• EHS lost to Moreau Catholic of Hayward, 7-5, in the first round of the NCS Div. 2 tournament (Nov. 2) — season over.

Women’s Golf
• AHS finished ninth out of 19 teams in the NCS Div. 1 women’s golf Championship (Oct. 31) — did not qualify NorCal team competition. AHS individual golfer Penny Chai finished tied for first overall (69) individually. She competed in the NorCal Div. 1 final on Nov. 7.
• SJND golfer Cecilia Zhou shot an 81 in the NCS Div. 1 women’s golf championship (Oct. 31).

Women’s Tennis
• AHS tennis player Juliana Johnson placed second in the West Alameda County Conference (WACC) Foothill Singles Championships. She lost in the final to Tanya Kononova of Piedmont, 3-6, 5-7 (Nov. 5). AHS tennis player Renata Serna placed fourth. She lost in the third-place match to Justine Fong of Castro Valley, 6-0, 3-6, 7-10. Alameda High advanced to the NCS Div. 1 tennis tournament.
• Encinal tennis player Sofia Layzer fell, 6-4, 6-1, to San Leandro High’s Tina Fang in the WACC Shoreline Singles Final at Chabot College.

Cross County
• AHS men’s team finished eighth out of nine teams in the WACC men’s 3-mile varsity championship meet (Nov. 5); the women’s team finished second out of four teams in the championship meet. AHS team member Sophia Carpenter finished first individually out of 59 participants.
• EHS men’s team finished ninth out of nine teams in the WACC men’s 3-mile varsity championship meet; the women’s team finished third out of four teams.
• SJND men’s team finished third out of eight teams in the Bay County League – East 5,000-meter men’s varsity championship meet (Nov. 3); the women’s team finished third out of four teams in the women’s meet.
