High School Sports Fall Sectional Tourneys Conclude
Alameda High School (AHS) men’s water polo team’s defeat in the North Coast Section (NCS) Div. II final marked the end of the fall sports season for Alameda city high school teams. The Hornet water polo team was not the only team to compete for a section title. Here is a roundup of postseason play of Alameda city high school sports teams.
Men’s Water Polo
AHS lost to Piedmont High, 10-8, in the NCS Div. II final on Saturday, Nov. 11. They defeated Cardinal Newman of Santa Rosa, 12-11, in the quarterfinal on Nov. 4, and Novato High School, 11-8, in the semifinal on Nov. 8. The team finished with a 21-7 overall record, while also winning the West Alameda County Conference (WACC) league tournament title.
The Encinal High School (EHS) team finished with a 10-14-1 overall record.
Women’s Water Polo
AHS (21-5) was upset by Tamalpais High of Mill Valley in the NCS Div. II women’s water polo quarterfinal. After receiving a first-round bye, the Hornets lost to the Red Tailed Hawks, 15-8, on Nov. 8. The Hornets did win the WACC league tournament title.
EHS advanced to the semifinal in the NCS Div. II tournament before also losing to Tamalpais High, 9-2. The Jets (18-12) defeated Newark Memorial, 16-10, in the first round, and Bishop O’Dowd, 7-6, in the quarterfinal.
Women’s Volleyball
EHS (21-13) was eliminated from the NCS Div. III women’s volleyball tournament by University High of San Francisco. The Jets lost to the Red Devils, 3-0, in the tournament quarterfinal on Oct. 28. The Jets defeated Miramonte High of Orinda, 3-2, in the first round.
St. Joseph Notre Dame (SJND) lost to Marin Academy of San Rafael, 3-2, in the first round of the NCS Div. IV tournament on Oct. 25.
AHS (9-18) did not qualify for an NCS tournament.
Women’s Tennis
AHS lost to Redwood High of Larkspur, 7-0, in the NCS Div. I women’s tennis first round on Nov. 7.
Women’s Golf
AHS finished fifth out of 11 teams in the NCS Div. II women’s golf tournament on Oct. 23.
Flag Football
AHS (7-3) lost to Acalanes High of Lafayette, 19-0, in the first round of the NCS women’s flag football tournament on Nov. 4.
Football
Neither AHS (7-3) nor EHS (2-8) qualified for an NCS tournament.
