Help Keep USS Hornet Museum Ship Shape

Fundraisers from the USS Hornet Museum, Alameda’s floating aircraft carrier museum, were excited to announce last week that a large Bay Area charitable foundation is reviewing a critical grant request.

The grant money would pay for weatherproofing and resurfacing of the Hornet’s flight deck as well as repairs to two aircraft elevators. The grant request has reached the second stage of the review process, including a site visit from the foundation’s representatives.

The Hornet Heritage Fund reports that from mid-January through mid-April $250,000 in both donations and pledges has already been raised. Some 400 people have donated to the Hornet Heritage Fund with approximately 40 percent donating for the first-time.

Any new or additional donations will go a long way in meeting the foundation’s expectations for a grant recipient. The Hornet asks community members to call the Development Department at 521-8448, Ext. 238, or visit the conribute page at www.uss-hornet.org, to support this effort. Donors may also utilize their employers’ matching gift fund or donating appreciated stock or mutual funds.
