Help Fund New AFD Memorial
The Alameda Fire Department (AFD) is seeking financial help from the Alameda community to create a memorial for the department’s fallen firefighters.
The Alameda Fallen Firefighters Memorial will honor firefighters who have given their life in the line of duty serving the community. The memorial will pay homage to the City of Alameda and AFD.
The proposed memorial will consist of four components. The Granite Paver section will be inscribed individually and inlaid around a Maltese cross on the ground of the memorial. Inscriptions will consist of three lines of text with a max of 15 characters per line. The Granite Square Paver will also be inscribed individually and inlaid between the granite benches encircling the memorial. Inscriptions will also consist of three lines of text with a max of 15 characters per line.
The Memorial Plaque and Granite Paver consist of a brick planter along the east side. A bronze plaque will be inscribed with supporter names and displayed on the black planter. Inscriptions will comprise of two lines of text with 15 characters per line. The Memorial Bench and Granite Paver consist of four granite benches and supporter names inscribed along the edge of the bench. A bronze sculpture designed by artist Lawrence Noble will also be part of the memorial.
To construct the memorial AFD is seeking donors to assist in raising $200,000. Any member of the public can become a sponsor of each component.
AFD is looking for $550 donations for the Granite Paver, $4,000 donations for a Granite Square Paver, $10,000 donations for a Memorial Plaque and $20,000 donations for a Memorial Bench.
AFD asks prospective contributors to make checks payable to the Alameda Fallen Firefighters Memorial and mail them to 1300 Park St. Alameda, CA 94501.
