Help Build A Dream

File photo Nothing makes a kid’s day like a swing on the monkey bars. Locals can make days like this happen by helping build a playground next Thursday.

Some 150 members of the public are asked to join in a community effort to build a new playground for the community in just one day, Thursday, July 21, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. To pull this off, volunteers will be needed to prepare the site on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 19 and 20.

The playground is combined project of Alameda Family Services, College of Alameda, the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group and the national nonprofit KaBoom dedicated to giving kids the childhood they deserve.

The groups need 40 volunteers Tuesday and 15 volunteers Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Team leaders are needed to manage volunteers. Special training for team leaders takes place Tuesday 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. Meet at the College of Alameda Child Care Center, 555 Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway.

Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and should wear sturdy shoes, and a cap or hat. No tools or special skills required. Volunteers aged 16 or 17 must have a guardian co-sign.
