Health Board Seeks New Member

The city of Alameda Health Care District is seeking to fill a vacant board member position left by former member Jordan Battani last month. Battani notified the board she would be stepping down from her position on May 9, but her resignation was finalized on May 23. Battani was board president for five of her seven-and-a-half years on the board.

“It has been my great privilege and pleasure to serve the community of Alameda, and the employees, clinicians, patients and staff at Alameda Hospital as a member of the Board of Directors of the City of Alameda Healthcare District for the past seven-and-a-half years,” wrote Battani on her Facebook page. “As a Board member with many other community leaders over the years, it’s been a wonderful experience to work with the dedicated, creative and tireless management team, employees and medical staff at Alameda Hospital.”

The board set up a timeline for how and when they will fill the vacancy after Battani’s resignation was finalized. The board began accepting applications on June 4 and will not receive anymore after tomorrow’s deadline. Then it will begin a three-day review and recommendation process where it will select viable candidates. Those applicants will then go through background checks.

All qualified applicants will be invited to attend an applicant conference on Wednesday, July 2, where the candidates will learn how the board works and issues the board is facing. Applicants will be interviewed by the full board on Wednesday, July 9 where it will then appoint the new member. The appointment deadline is on Tuesday, July 22.

The person who is selected to fill Battani’s seat will do so until November, when the seat will become vacant again and filled through a general election vote. The winner of the general election will serve the remaining two years of Battani’s term.

Battani’s resignation is a result of the health district deciding to affiliate the hospital with the Alameda Health Systems, an affiliation Battani helped negotiate.

The current board members are Tracy Jensen, Lynn Bratchett, J. Michael McCormick and Robert Deutch. To apply for the position, visit alamedahospital.org or call 814-4001.
