Golf Clubbers Compete
Flor Ventanilla won the Alameda Women’s Golf Club net tournament event Thursday, Aug. 16, on the Jack Clark Course.
Ventanilla competed in the second of four flights among golfers with a handicap of 27 to 32. She shot a net 65, 10 strokes better than the rest of her flight competitors. Barbara Mickle, Diana Millado and Yvonne Lee all shot net 75s to tie for second place. Louise Eilhardt posted a net 76 for fifth place in the flight.
Fran Mori and Jeanne Yip tied atop the first flight — handicap of 12 to 26 — with matching net 72s. Dot Moody was third with a net 73, while Madeline Sally shot a net 74 for fourth place. Bernice Herzberg posted a net 76 to round out the top five in the flight. Stephanie Bellato did not reach the top five net scores in the first flight, but she did shoot the lowest gross score of the event with an overall 89.
Kay Park won the third flight competition — handicap of 33 to 37 — with a net 74. Shirley Lee posted a net 76 for second place. Beatrice Lebrec shot a net 77 for third place. Jamie Totsuba shot a net 79 for fourth place, while Janet Rhee posted a net 80 for fifth place.
Bobbie Hoepner won the fourth flight — handicap of 38 to 40 — and finished second in the overall tournament with a net 68. Pam Curtis was second in the fourth flight with a net 71. Angie Vaccarezza posted a net 75 for third place. Siv Richards shot a net 78, while Susan Logan rounded out the top five in the flight with a net 80.
Thirty-one golfers competed in the tournament.
Herzberg won the closest-to-the-hole competition on the fifth hole. Her ball landed 5’ 9” from the hole. Millado won the competition on the 16th hole with her ball stopping 15’ 9” away from the pin.
