Golf Club Hosts August Charm Event
Ruby Soo won the Alameda Women’s Golf Club’s August Charm Day event after posting a net 68 Thursday, Aug. 1, on the Jack Clarke Course.
Soo competed in the fifth flight among golfers with a 39 to 40 handicap. Siv Richards posted a net 69 for second place, while Bev Blatt shot a net 71 for third place.
Tai Chewpanich and Val Buschor both shot net 72s to tie atop the first flight — handicap of 11 to 22. Buschor shot the lowest gross score of the event with an overall 83. Kari Landis posted a net 73 to finish third in the flight.
Sonia Kwak finished atop the second flight — handicap of 24 to 29 — with a net 72. Alice Wong shot a net 73 for second place in the flight, while Sarah Valentine rounded out the top three with a net 74.
LeAnn Curran won the third flight — handicap of 30 to 34 — after posting a net 70. Angie Vaccarezza finished right behind her with a net 72. Susan Yoon and Diana Millado finished tied for third place after posting matching net 76s.
Janet Rhee and Denise Gatsi shot matching net 72s to share a victory in the fourth flight — handicap of 35 to 38. Kay Park and Lynette Mladinich tied for third place with net 77s.
Chewpanich won the closest-to-the-hole competition on the seventh hole. Her ball landed 27’ 2” from the pin. Valentine finished second with her ball landing 39’ 9 from the hole.
Maggie Lindquist won the competition on the 16th hole. Her ball landed 16’ 2” from the pin. Kari Vadnis finished second at 19’ 2” from the pin.
Forty-three golfers participated in the event.
