Gator Swimmers Show Out at Montclair Tournament

 

Several members of the Alameda Gators swim team competed in the Montclair Swim Team Pentathlon on June 2, at Acalanes High in Lafayette.

Girls
Annabelle Catic finished 15th out of 64 swimmers in the girls’ 10-and-under (10U) 50-yard freestyle meet with a time of 33.48. Other Gator swimmers in the meet included: Eva Youngquist (34.91) finished 20th; Kylie Zorn (35.82) finished 24th; and Kiely Wong (37.05) finished 29th.

Catic (1:25.68), Wong (1:26.02) and Youngquist (1:26.38) finished 15th, 16th and 17th, respectively, in the girls’ 10U 100-yard individual medley race. More than 30 swimmers competed in the race.

Rebecca Stelmach finished in 22nd place in the 11-12 girls’ 50-yard backstroke with a time of 36.92. Cho Abby came in 45th with a time of 40.89. Fifty-seven participants competed in the race.

Gator swimmer Sofia Martin del Campo won the 13-14 girls’ 100-yard freestyle race with a time of 55.99. She beat 33 other competitors including teammate Vivian Barber who finished 23rd with a time of 1:09.35. Other Gators swimmers in the race included: Olivia Jimenez (1:11.24) finished 25th; MacKeez Arghandiwal (1:11.76) finished 26th; and Libby Whittlock (1:16.15) finished 30th.

Martin del Campo finished sixth in the 13-14 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:08.20. Thirty-two swimmers competed in the race. 

Boys
Gator Aaron Cho finished 26th in the boys’ 10U 50-yard breastroke competition with a time of 56.73. He also finished 26th in the 50-yard fly race with a time of 56.54 and 12th in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 58.97. 

Gator Owen Youngquist competed in every 11- to 12-year-old competition. He finished the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:08.49, the 50-yard backstroke in 40.10; the 50-yard breakstroke with a time of 41.90; the 50-yard fly with a time of 36.44; and the 100-yard individual medley in 1:20.79. His best finish was in the 50-yard fly; he placed 15th out of 33 competitors.

Gator Devin Hou won the 13-14 boys’ 100-yard freestyle competition. He completed the race with a time of 54.62. His teammate Jonas Li came in fourth with a time of 55.46. Twenty-five swimmers participated in the race. Li bested Hou in the 100-yard backstroke race. Li finished third with a time of 1:04.04, while Hou finished fourth with a time of 1:05.54. Twenty-five swimmers competed in the race.
